       Не факт, что вычурный, декадентский, конвульсивный, местами напыщенный стиль, выбранный Пенном, больше всего подходит для пьесы и сценария Уильяма Гибсона. В картине Пенна нет такого, что могло бы понравиться безоговорочно, и все же основная часть силы пьесы-первоисточника сохранена: а именно – взгляд на образование как на беспощадную схватку учителя с учеником, нацеленную только на результат. Напомним, что по произведениям Уильяма Гибсона сняты 3 фильма разной художественной ценности: один шедевр (Паутина, The Cobweb, Миннелли, по одноименному роману) и 2 интересные картины – эта и Двое на качелях, Two for the Seesaw, Роберт Уайз, 1962 по одноименной пьесе.
